Better Together

The Glasgow Conservative association believes Scotland benefits with its union with the rest of the United Kingdom. We actively supports the Better Together campaign to keep Scotland enjoying the benefits of our union and make the case that going it alone is not in Scotland's interest.

Devolution offers us the best of both worlds: we have a strong Scottish Parliament making real decisions here in Scotland about Scotland. But we still get the benefit of sharing risks, rewards and resources with the rest of the UK.

Our Scottish Parliament has been a real success – backed up by the strength and security of the bigger UK economy.

We know it makes sense to pool our resources. We understand some things are easier when you have your friends and family standing beside you. We are stronger when we work together.

  • We decide what is best for our universities in the Scottish Parliament AND our world-class Universities are backed by big UK funding for Scots scientists, doctors and inventors.
  • We make decisions about the NHS in Scotland AND we get cost-free, hassle-free access to the specialist treatment our family needs anywhere in the UK NHS.
  • We benefit from the success of the Scottish Parliament AND we benefit from sharing resources with the rest of the UK.

We know devolution works for us. We should continue the success of the Scottish Parliament, with more powers, rather than putting its achievements at risk through separation.

All the main political parties are now committed to bringing forward proposals to give the Scottish Parliament more powers. The Scottish Parliament got more tax raising powers just last year. If we vote against independence, even the SNP will have to support more devolution rather than arguing for another referendum. With every single party committed to more powers, there is no doubt that a vote against separation is a vote for more devolution.
